Responsibility is Accountability: the state, fact, or position of being accountable to somebody or for something. Moral responsibility can refer to two different but related things. First, a person has ‘moral responsibility‘ for a situation if that person has an obligation to ensure that something happens. Responsibility is also the authority to act: authority to take decisions independently. If someone is responsible for something, he or she must own up and have the courage to face the consequence of his action. Every action you make, you will have a consequence to face and a responsibility to bear. For instance, if you cannot resist the temptation of stealing and reached out a hand for the wallet on the table. Think again. The responsibility you have to bear if you were to steal that wallet is a jail sentence and your reputation tarnished. Another example would be a mother and a son. A special bond had been formed between a mother and a child since birth; hence the mother should have the responsibility to bring up the child until he is able to feed himself. She is accountable to the infant’s welfare. Lack of responsibility from the mother would result in her dumping the child and leave him in the lurch. The consequence is that she will have a guilt-stricken life from then on. Thus, before you do an action, think to prevent any regrets in life. ‘O’ levels, which are round the corner, is pressurizing us as time management between CCA and academically would be a difficult problem unless he or she knows how to manage his or her time almost to perfection. If not, it is almost impossible to excel in all areas. The mentality of scoring good grades is always lingering in everyone’s minds, so strong that we would do anything to achieve the means, even with the help of underhand methods. Cheating. Many students would decide to resort to cheating as an easy way out to score good grades to appease his or her parents and teachers. The action is wrong but we need immense willpower to not succumb to this temptation, sometimes addiction. The consequence, if caught, is caning by the discipline master and banned from taking the exams for one year. Regret will surely engulf that student for life and accompanies him like a permanent scar on the heart. The responsibility is to account for his own mistake and learn from it, pick himself up and continue with life. This is provided that he has the courage to overcome the fear and guilt after the incident. I hope that responsibility and self-discipline will be the key values of my life.
